Software Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Software Engineer is a motivated and well-organized individual with a passion for working across technical disciplines to develop compelling products and platforms that involve innovative technology and solving complex problems. This position requires an individual who has expertise working with early technology paths; the ability to work collaboratively with non-technical and technical partners; experience managing system maturation, requirements, and respective risks; and focus on execution while providing clear and effective communication to remove barriers across the entire team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop key components and subsystems of a Holographic medical device.
  • Collaborate, effectively with cross-functional stakeholders including system architects, project managers, product owners, operations, and external partners.
  • Develop and write specifications and design documents.
  • Perform troubleshooting of operational and integration issues.
  • Update/create new manuals and design documents for new features.
  • Utilize agile software development processes, including scrum and code reviews.
  • Responsible for taking requirements and technical design solutions to software implementation and test.
  • The candidate should possess excellent integration and debugging skills in both hardware and software and have the ability to bridge the gap between other software and hardware developers in finding system solutions.
  • Develop verification and integration test plans and code for design and code for design verification, integration, and manufacturing test.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to participate in design and code reviews, have a thorough understanding of version control and software quality attributes, such as testability, portability, and maintainability, and enjoy a self-driven and collaborative development approach.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/or Experience – Minimum of a Bachelor Level Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of experience in developing software products and/or systems. Experience in a regulated industry ex: medical, defense, automotive. Knowledge and experience building, training, and implementing both supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms.
  • Language Skills – Strong communication skills such as written, verbal, and public speaking. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisors, clients, staff, vendors, etc.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. This role requires above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Additional Required Skills –
    • Solid experience in writing code in C# with C++ being a bonus.
    • Comfortable working with video transport, compression, and display of video.
    • Ability to optimize video data for HoloLens 2 visualization.
    • Comfortable working with polygonal mesh data as well as imaging data (e.g. formats including DICOM, STL, and OBJ), and optimizing the mesh format, transport, and size.
    • Must be able to demonstrate competencies in data structures and algorithms.
    • Must have a genuine desire to develop software to solve unique problems.
    • Familiarity with network connectivity via wifi, transport protocols, and transfer of data.
    • Must show attention to detail, a positive attitude, the ability to learn and to be challenged, and to take pride in quality, performance, and timelines.
    • Ability to partner on authoring technical specification documents and assist in implementing Design Controls.
  • Desired Skills –
    • Experience working with DICOM data is a plus.
    • Must be able to work independently within a group in a collaborative environment as you will be part of a Scrum Development team.
    • Medium to high skill level in Visual Studios 2019/2022.
    • Intimately familiar with the Unity development platform.
    • Familiar with developing in Unity with Mixed Reality Toolkit.
    • Familiar with GitHub, GitKraken, and DevOps code repository.
  • Other Qualifications – Valid driver’s license is required; Must be able to travel 20-30% of the time; Overnight stays may be necessary. Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced, tech startup environment where change is a constant and roles and tasks can be ambiguous at times. Must show attention to detail, a positive attitude, the ability to learn and to be challenged, and to take pride in quality, performance, and timeliness.
