Finance Controller

Position Summary:

The Financial Controller, US is responsible for financial reporting and compliance, working closely with the Group Finance team in the UK that manages the consolidated financial statements, purchase-to-pay function, bookkeeping, and management accounting for all entities of the group. The role works closely with UK financial colleagues in the development of financial analysis and insights, support of critical business strategies and enabling better informed commercial decision making by the business. The role is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with US finance-related laws, procedures, and regulations such as US financial reporting, federal & state tax returns, sales & local taxes, US State registrations, payroll, employee benefits, insurances, incentive stock options & 409A valuations, etc.

The [Financial Controller, US] provides strategic financial support to the company’s President of North America and is expected to influence the business with fact based financial data on all matters.

Responsibilities:

• Review and support monthly reporting activities working closely with UK Finance colleagues to coordinate and execute financial operations.
• Implement and ensure effective internal controls are established and adhered to, which comply with IFRS/ US GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws for financial and tax compliance and reporting.
• Development of effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, advisors, and external auditors.
• Work closely with in-house US HR and outsourced third-party professional employer organization, provide support and analysis of employment compensation and other in-kind benefit plans, ensure compliance of employee and company compensation related filings.
• Partner with business internal stakeholders to establish a robust annual budget program, reforecasting methodology and variance analysis; and which aligns with Group process.
• Forecasting and cash flow monitoring.
• Support profitability analysis, evaluate commercial proposals and add financial insight into special initiatives that support the overall strategic direction of the organization.  Work as a financial business partner to other team members in planning for commercial success.  Prepare ad-hoc analysis to facilitate decision making and report achievements against business targets.
• Collaborate with UK Finance colleagues in creating standardized models/ financial analysis tools that underpin management reporting and presentations to Senior Leadership & the Board, highlighting achievements against business targets, managing expectations, and exceeding them.
• Partner with cross-department colleagues in US & UK to standardize processes, adopt policies and internal controls to drive improvement with automation of timely & efficient financial reporting, actively fostering the reputation of the finance function as customer-focused, knowledgeable & insightful, collaborative, reliable, pragmatic, and flexible.
• Any other duties dependent on the needs of the business, which may occasionally require the attendance of events off site.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• A minimum of 10 years post-qualified career experience as a finance professional, preferably in the life sciences industry and/ or significant growth SMEs.
• US-qualified accountant.
• Strong academics and a good Bachelor’s degree.
• A team player with the ability to work well in a cross-functional small dynamic global environment and build support across all levels of the organization is required.
• Self-starter, relishing empowerment, and accountability
• Highly numerate, attention to detail & accuracy, with strong commercial instincts.
• The ability in a fast-growth environment to communicate well and drive rapid, but fact-based commercial decision-making with imperfect data.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Right to work in the USA is required.

Other Qualifications:

• Travel: May need to travel less than 10% of the time.
• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate well, whilst listening closely, hearing, and understanding.
• The position may require sitting for significant periods of the day, thinking hard, and working on a computer.
• Work Environment: This position is onsite.
