Director Trade Compliance

**** Must have Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Life Sciences experience in Trade compliance.

The Director of global Trade Compliance provides leadership to Global Trade Compliance and Operations teams to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for import/export. Leads, coaches, and participates in improving processes and supply chain efficiencies in cross-border activities. Works with Commercial Operations, Regional Supply Chain Organizations, Ethics and Compliance, External Affairs, and Legal to implement world-class international trade capability across the regions.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:

• Leads the Global Trade Compliance community via talent development, policies, procedures, training, and audits across organizations.
• Manage deployment and enforcement of Corporate Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for import/export.
• Implementation of global valuation methodology(s), ensuring the company is compliant with the World Trade Organization and country-specific valuation standards.
• Direct Trade Governance global self-assessments Audit Program and metrics.
• Lead the international trade network to drive metrics and reporting, and ensure root cause analysis is performed as needed. Lead specialty task forces as needed.
• Ensure regional deployment of C-TPAT, AEO, and other global security programs. Provide system and security support to regional teams.
• Implement processes for global trade compliance regulation watch and advocacy.
• Drive Quarterly Trade Essential training program and supplement with ad hoc training opportunities wherever needed on a variety of trade topics.
• Manage/advocate for upgrades to trade compliance IT functionality (GTS) and security.
• Manage global classification program for import and export classification at the regional level.
• Ensure implementation of global trade Governance procedures for import, export, and export control process (embargo), including escalation for denied blocks investigation, export license management, deemed exports, etc.
• Provide compliance oversight for non-commercial material flow, such as R&D materials.
• Accountable for responses to Customs inquiries and audits.

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):

• At least 10 years of experience in Customs Compliance.
• At least 5 years of experience with a global Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences company.
• Minimum five years of experience supervising trade governance and compliance roles.
• Experience working effectively in many global regions.
• Knowledge of FTA, FTZ, IPR, duty drawback, suspension, and exemption programs. Strong duty optimization knowledge and experience implementing duty reduction projects.
• Knowledge of US EAR. Must know HTS and ECCN classification and license requirements.
• Knowledge of trade compliance IT systems, security programs, and global best practices.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Fluent, in speech and writing, in English.
• Knowledge of SAP GTS and SAP S4 HANA preferred.
